A star is born

New airline Starlux selects Inmarsat’s GX Aviation as its connectivity solution

Starlux Airlines, the Taiwanese start-up carrier, will bring inflight connectivity to its passengers via Inmarsat’s next-generation, high-speed inflight broadband solution, GX Aviation.

The airline has partnered with SITA FOR THE AIRCRAFT (formerly SITAONAIR) to deploy its award-winning Internet ONAIR Wi-Fi portal – powered by Link ONAIR over the GX Aviation satellite network – on its A321neos and A350s, in preparation for its commercial launch next year.

Founded in May 2018, Starlux Airlines will serve both Asian and North American long-haul routes from its headquarters in Taipei. Focusing on the business and leisure markets, the airline aims to meet passenger demand with tailored, premium IFC offers.

Starlux President, Glenn Chai, said the deal was testament to the fledgling carrier’s commitment to developing an innovative and world-class connectivity passenger experience ahead of its first flight.

“We are excited by what is taking shape,” Chai commented, “and are certain that Internet ONAIR over GX Aviation will deliver the consistent and high-speed connection necessary for a top-flight travel experience.”

Internet ONAIR will enable Starlux’s passengers to continue their digital lives while in the air.

Chris Rogerson, Inmarsat Aviation’s Regional Director for Asia Pacific, said the agreement demonstrated GX Aviation’s standing in Asia Pacific.

“We are delighted to welcome another new airline customer to the GX Aviation family and congratulate SITAONAIR (now SITA FOR THE AIRCRAFT) on this exciting announcement,” he said. “GX Aviation has fast become the flagship inflight broadband solution for airlines in Asia Pacific, from the region’s most established carriers to brand new start-ups such as Starlux.”

Furthermore, the portal is expertly integrated within the airlines’ existing passenger manifest. This allows seamless synchronisation of the latest passenger information and requirements, which are recorded in the airline’s customer relationship management (CRM) system.

Connecting Internet ONAIR with this rich source of customer data will allow Starlux to extend its personalised passenger offerings from ground to air, to promote custom price plans and tailored content depending on passenger budget, seat class, frequent flyer status, search histories, or shopping preferences.

Katrina Korzenowski, SITA FOR THE AIRCRAFT (formerly SITAONAIR) Commercial Regional VP, Asia-Pacific, was enthusiastic about the alliance, describing the airline as an exciting new entrant to the premium air travel market.

“We are delighted to be partnering with the airline to bring premium inflight passenger connectivity on board,” she said. “With our years of dedicated expertise delivering tailored solutions, we are the right partner for Starlux to bring this young carrier to the fore of passenger connectivity.”
