APEX EXPO 2017: The round up

Thursday marked the final day of the APEX EXPO 2017, and we thought it would be a great opportunity to reflect on all the exciting things that have happened over the last week. Each year the Airline Passenger Experience Expo (APEX Expo) runs for three days, showcasing the latest aviation industry innovations, technologies, and trends. 

The first day of APEX brought exciting news for Inmarsat, as the world’s leading provider of global mobile satellite communications, and Deutsche Telekom, one of the world’s leading integrated telecommunications companies, were announced as winners of the ‘Best Inflight Connectivity Innovation’ award by APEX for their ground-breaking new European Aviation Network (EAN) inflight broadband solution.

Then, a brand new study by LSE found that inflight broadband could stimulate a $130bn global market, worth $30bn for airlines.

It was also announced that AirAsia Group would be using Inmarsat’s GX aviation, putting the finishing touches to a landmark deal that will see Inmarsat’s revolutionary high-speed broadband service, GX Aviation, installed on more than 120 Airbus aircraft.



AirAsia X CEO Benyamin Ismail says AirAsia Group chose Inmarsat because they are “the best in the market”.



In other news, it was announced that SITONAIR has activated GX Aviation on the first Singapore Airlines Boeing 777-300ER and will continue the rollout on other aircraft in the airline’s fleet, continuing the five year partnership between Singapore Airlines and SITAONAIR.



Plus, Rockwell Collins announced the news that a big Asian airline is taking a “giant leap” towards flight and cabin connectivity, with a GX Aviation order for 100 new Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.
