Introduction to GX Aviation
Passenger experience is being redefined, thanks to the world’s first truly global, high-speed broadband service from a single operator.
Consistent, reliable, high quality broadband from a single trusted partner. Unrivalled capacity across worldwide flight routes. Find out why GX Aviation is your shortcut to the airline services of tomorrow.
A new world of passenger experience
Seamless high-speed service in the sky gives commercial aviation customers the opportunity to launch unique passenger experiences. GX Aviation takes airlines beyond inflight internet to streamed entertainment and dynamic e-commerce, targeted content and personalised service. The result? New revenue opportunities and enhanced passenger relationships.
Worldwide Wi-Fi, no drop-outs
GX Aviation offers uninterrupted high-speed Wi-Fi worldwide – powered by Global Xpress, the world’s only global Ka-band satellite network, owned and operated by Inmarsat. Global Xpress consigns to history the makeshift patchwork of Ku-band services that have disappointed passengers and frustrated the aviation industry for years. Consistent performance, with no drop-outs between satellite beams, means broadband in the air works as well as it does on the ground.

Built for aviation
Unlike other solutions, GX Aviation is a bespoke build that meets the needs of airlines and their passengers today – the result of Inmarsat’s unmatched experience as a connectivity service provider to leading airlines worldwide.
Highly efficient Ka-band spot beams provide a robust layer of global coverage designed specifically to serve a mobile audience cruising at 35,000 feet. GX Aviation’s steerable beams also offer the flexibility to add and redirect capacity precisely where it’s needed most, across the busiest hubs and traffic hotspots.
As demand grows, so will our capacity. From a fourth Global Xpress satellite (GX4) already providing redundancy to an ongoing commitment to improve the performance of antennas and onboard equipment, Inmarsat guarantees a continuous improvement in network performance, bandwidth economics and the services and applications that will set our customers apart from the competition.
The coming years will see a series of highly efficient, regional satellites added to the network, followed by the most powerful, flexible mobile communication satellites ever created. The additional satellites will start with GX5 in 2019, to deliver layers of focused capacity including targeted steerable beams over Europe and the Middle East. GX6A will then launch in 2020 and GX6B in 2021, to augment coverage where and when demand is greatest.
Beyond that, Inmarsat has also committed to launch the next generation of satellites GX7, 8 and 9, which will take precision targeting to the next level with thousands of dynamic beams that can be customised to different shapes, sizes and power. These satellites will bring more powerful, flexible and scalable capacity than any before, driving enhanced services for the 5G era.
Satellites GX10A and GX10B, Inmarsat’s first HEO satellites are also scheduled to launch in 2022 to expand the quality of coverage at higher elevations and across the Arctic and.
With confirmed investment in future satellite launches, innovative new networks and advanced onboard terminals, this is technology you can always rely on now, and in the future.
